Martha H. Rhoades, age 75, of Janesville, died on Tuesday, April 19, 2016, at home with her family by her side. She was born in Marengo, Wisconsin, on December 9, 1940, the daughter of William and Esther (Nortunen) Hurula. She received her Bachelor’s from UW-LaCrosse in education and her Master’s from UW-Whitewater in Reading. Martha married James F. Rhoades in Woodstock, Illinois, on July 1, 1963. She moved to Janesville in 1977, taught high school physical education, and retired from Blackhawk Technical College as an adult educator. She was a member of the Bower City Garden Club, an avid tennis player, a proud Republican, loved boating, skiing in the U.P., wintering in Florida, traveling, and visiting Door County. She operated her own jewelry business. Martha made many special friendships and loved spending time with family and friends.
